ORCHESTRATION

BUNDLE SERVICE

From orchestration, to music copying, to music preparation, Tristan can take you from the beginning of a project to the very end with ease without any need from outside support, and has executed this on innumerable occasions including high-profile jobs such as LEGO: The Incredibles. Having worked tirelessly to maximise output and efficiency, you can be safe in the knowledge that your project is in total control in the hands of one person. This in itself ensures that there is no confusion from having to explain various instructions from one member of the team to another. When there are countless cues to work through, you do not have time to explain certain aspects to other people, and therefore, the bundle system is the most effective way of working.

BENEFITS

  • MORE COST-EFFECTIVE

  • MORE EFFICIENT

  • KEEPS THE PROJECT IN-HOUSE

  • KEEPS CLIENT-WORRY AT BAY

  • MAIXIMISES PRODUCTIVITY/OUTPUT

  • ELIMINATES CHANCES OF MISTAKES

As well as the points marked above, you can be rest assured that the bundle service drastically improves the quality of work compared to hiring multiple different people for each part of the process. For example, having completed the orchestration phase of the project, Tristan will then go through and tidy the parts whilst also carefully checking through them to make sure there is no missing information such as dynamics, articulations, divisi markings and various other important details.

The final part of the process is to print the music from the notation software program which is far quicker than printing from PDF’s. Since the bundle package means that Tristan has been working on the project since the orchestration phase, he is very likely to pick up any problems before they reach the stand at the recording session.

When I’m up against a tight deadline, having Tristan take care of the orchestration, copying & music prep means less links in the chain to worry about, & less stress at crunch time – so I can concentrate on writing & making those last minute tweaks! The scores & parts always look fantastic & are free from any errors or ambiguities that would waste time on the scoring stage.

ENGRAVING / COPYING

Copying is one of the most overlooked parts of a project, but also the most essential. Without a good copyist, your session has the potential to fall apart at the final hurdle, so it is important to ensure that there is a budget for part tidying.

Tristan has worked as a copyist on countless projects and always prepares a unique cue sheet for each job, ensuring that there are no missing parts which could slow down a recording session. It is always his first priority to guarantee that the score and parts and both readable and easy on the eye, since the session musicians are sight reading and therefore have never seen the music before they read it for the first time at the session.

When the time comes to engrave the parts, Tristan imports his custom-made house style which he has been honing for several years. To ensure that the parts look the best that they possibly can, he uses special fonts, text styles and formatting. Following this, it is then a case of checking through the parts carefully to ensure that everything is correct in terms of transpositions, clefs and general phrasing. All of this combined is vital to ensuring that a session runs as smoothly as possible.

In an industry where time is of the essence, you can be safe in the knowledge that your project will be completed to the highest quality in virtually no time. From receiving the call to begin work on the job, to delivering the scores to the studio, the time taken can be a matter of hours and working all night is no exception if need be. Tristan is highly skilled and efficient in Sibelius and Dorico, ensuring maximum coverage across a few of the major notation programs.

MUSIC PREPARATION

Tristan has worked on large-scale music preparation jobs such as, but not limited to: the BBC Proms, Pete Tong: Ibiza Classics and Gary Numan's November 2018 UK Tour, and his work has appeared in iconic studios such as the world famous Abbey Road Studios, Air Studios and countless more.

Tristan delivers all of the parts and scores well in advance of the session and attends the recording session if requested (just in case any last minute changes occur on the scoring stage). It is highly recommended that a librarian is booked to sit in at the recording session in case any changes need to be made, and therefore new parts need to be printed. This can be sorted when setting up a quote with Tristan in the stages of discussing the requirements for your project.

Having had experience as a composer, orchestrator and music copyist, you can be sure that all the necessary steps have been taken care of to guarantee that your session runs like clockwork with no hiccups or errors.

Going to the next level to source environmentally friendly and high quality materials is imperative in the studio setting. Heavier, thicker paper ensures that the music isn't flimsy and doesn't fall off the stand whilst being economically viable for the client. Items such as the folders that hold the music are made from 100% recycled manilla.

With a high quality laser printer and exceptional toner quality, you can expect a sharp finish to the scores and parts that allows the notation to stand out on the page in the studio. At a speed of 55 pages per minute, Tristan can print scores quickly, thus lowering the price needed to get your project from a digital score in a notation program, to a fully prepared and printed score ready to be performed by world-class musicians.
